I assume that the trans was OK before?
It sounds to me like either something is very wrong with the filter that you installed or you did not refill with enough fluid or that you have too much fluid. On my complete fluid changes, I have always added about 2/3 of the capacity initially, started the engine, and let it idle to fill the converter, moving the shifter several times between P, D, and R as it warms up. Then I top it off. And I have never had a problem like this.

Kept adding more fluid and then added some Lucas Transmission Anti Slip fluid. It turned out my error was not letting the engine idle long enough to fill up the torque converter. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for the info Chuck. I dont normally add additives to the vehicle but the reason I changed the fluid was because of a tranny flare. The Lucas fluid is a miracle product...
