I have heard two schools of thought with respects to B100 (100% biodiesel) and mercedes w123 3.0L turbo diesel injector pumps:

One school claims that any amount of B100 will result in the break down of seals in the injector pump, leading to failure.

The other school claims that there were two types of pump manufacturered for this car: the one made in the USA and the one made in Europe.

Apparently, the European manufacturers had the foresight to incorporate poly seals that don't break down in the presence of a powerful solvent. The USA manufacturers, however, used much more rubber in their blend.

Can anyone shed some light on this? How would one identify their pump?

Sounds like BS. I know of no one losing an IJP to B100.

A very knowledgable Mercedes mechanis worked on my 83 300D grey model (European) and replaced a bad o-ring in the IP. He mentioned that the Euro-models were built with higher performance aka 'better' injection pumps than their American counterparts. He didn't say anything specific about rubber parts in the pump though.

I am trying to run on B100 homebrewed in my garage to fuel my '83 300D. I have a makeshift lab set up and am using spent frying oil from work to make the biodiesel. Is there any Benz owners out there that using biodiesel in my area? I would like to find someone to correspond with, perhaps share contacts, resources etc.

there is b20 at roadready(bell fuel) on devon between elmhurst rd and rte 83 for aro 2.35 a gal(see sep thred on forum)

there is b100 virgin available at feece oil in batavia(also see forum thread)

also would be happy to show you what is involved in bio d prod whenever you can get over this way.

we are using the appleseed processor made from black iron pipe and an elec hot water heater. girl mark came thru the midwest last year and showed us how to do it.

i am using homebrew in an 83 240 and the partner is using it in his 83(?) 300sd.
