Newbie! Need info on '94 S600 Sound System

Hi everyone, my first post here, probably not my last!

Posting on behalf of my dad who wants to change the speakers in his '94 S600. It's a European model (RHD) but I don't think the sound systems differ from the US-Spec cars.

Either way, we're looking to find any info available about the factory sound system (believe its Bose right now?) as MB and the web in general offer little to no help on this matter.

1) What head unit, amplifier etc. are used?
2) Speaker sizes and number (could you please confirm that the dash mounted speakers aren't tweeters but are used for Phones?)
3) Ohm rating of speakers?
4) What can be replaced and by what retaining the factory wiring system? I believe that Becker units can be installed which utilize the factory wiring and plug right in? Which models would this be? Would the 6 cd changer not work with them?
5) Amp.. possible to replace?

Basically just looking to up the speakers at this point but I'm afraid for some reason that it's not easy as it sounds (especially since after measuring some of them they appear a VERY weird size!)

Any recommendations to what speakers can be installed? DLS are considered very high quality around here, as are MB Quarts..

Thanks everyone!

P.S. Are the sound systems on s600 and s500 the same?

Why would you want to change the speakers out. Are they broken? The Bose systems in these cars are very high quality and are thought out and tested to give the most accurate sound possible.

Anyway, the dash speakers are for the phones. That leaves 11 speakers for the sound system. The 4 on the rear shelf are woofers. The door speakers are in a plastic enclosure that bolts to the door behind the door panel; 2 speakers in each front door and 1 in each rear door. They have ducts to help enhance the sound. The tweeter is behind the rearview mirror. Probably the only speakers that would be easy to change to an off-brand would be the rear shelf speakers. From what I have seen, it would be hard to mount regular size speakers in the doors.

The amp in in the trunk behind the liner on the drivers side. And there is wiring to the trunk for a cd changer if one is not already installed.
