1992 Radio Wiring & "security" wiring
I'd like to put my '92 radio w/ CD changer in my '87. Will I need a code for the '92 radio once removed or is it like the '87 radio that simply needs to be connected to the car properly?
On the properly connected part: I believe that the radio is destroyed if not hooked to the security wire before being powered up, it seems that the security wire is a wire connecting two connectors together on the rear of the radio? Does this go to ground or to +12v? It doesn't show this in the FSM, and I'd hate to ruin a perfectly good radio/head unit. Thanks,

If your '92 radio is an OEM unit, it will require a security code to power up. Make sure you already have the code, otherwise it will do no good to transplant to the other car. The code will be the same however.
Can't comment on the wire connection sequence howerever...

Only the early radios (prior to 90 I think) had the security wiring and a system that had to be reset by a dealer. The later cars just have a code that will need to be reset every time the main power is disconnected. The code is fixed no matter what vehicle it is ever attached to and it will stay the same.

This is from a '92 or '93 190E, has the twin spade connectors for the security wire just like the '87 Becker, could it be non-coded in the 190E?
Does anyone know if this wire is gnd or +12v on the '87?
