Armrest speaker?

Hey all,

here's a wierd question that didn't turn up anything in a forum search. My 1979 240D has what I presume is a....speaker in the driver seat armrest. What in the heck is it for? Does anyone else have one of these? It is about centered where the pivot point of the armrest is, facing the passenger. It is probably 2 or 3 inches in diameter. The plug for it comes out under the seat, it is a simple 2 prong, OEM Mercedes-style plug with a reciving female plug under the driver's seat. It was unplugged, I just noticed it today when removing my driver's seat for the first time. Going to pool-noodle the bad boy.

Will take pictures and post them if nobody knows what I am talking about. Thanks in advance!

a speaker? in the armrest? of a 240D??? are you sure it's not the release button for the armrest? that would have come from an SD, but hmm. never heard of that one.

That is simply a cover that you would remove to gain access to the bolt on the pivot shaft. The wiring is probably for the seat belt reminder light in the dash.

Forgive my stupidity

oh man....now i feel stoopid. I went out and popped the cover off of it, and yeah, its just a bolt. Oh well. That looks like a little speaker grill on it though, it has vent slots, and looking through it the bolt looked like a speaker dust cap. The wire must be the seat belt light. This case is closed, thanks for your advice, and without making me sound like a complete moron!!

Please, also forget that I am in school to be an electrical engineer. *Sigh*...

I love stories like this, mostly because I could picture myself doing the same thing.
Thanks for the laugh.
