XM Antenna Placement/Installation on W126
Finally had some time yesterday to begin installing a new Sony MEX BT-5000 head unit with XM module into my '91 560SEL. Rewiring is all pretty straightforward so far, except I'm not sure of where I should mount the XM antenna.
Anyone that's installed a satellite receiver in a 126 that can offer some feedback as to the best way to go here? Roof or trunk--does it matter? NOTE: I really don't want there to be any exposed wires running along the exterior of the roof or the trunk! (I'm perfectly willing to drill and rubber grommet as needed to avoid this!) In addition to actual placement of the antenna, I'd really appreciate some tips on optimal wire routing from the antenna to the panel under the front passenger foot well (where I'm installing the required XM digital module et al that will ultimately feed signal to the head unit.) Thanks for any insights! I'm really psyched about this upgrade--I've simultaneously replaced both front and rear stock speakers with new Eclipse drivers and have bypassed the stock amps and fader. A huge audio improvement is virtually assured!
