Navigation for W140

Hi all,
Has anybody installed after market GPS system on a W140? Specifically I'm considering to buy an Eclipse AVN7000 for my 97 S600 and was wondering if there are any complications such as wiring and connecting the unit to the stock amps and so forth. Any info appreciated.
Thanks.

I assume you want to build it into the dash ? Why not just get a system you can switch from car to car ? I have the Garmin Nuvi 660 and love it. The portability allows me to take it on vacation and use it in a rental if need be.

I put in an Alpine nav system into my '94 S500 cpe about 10 years ago. At that time, the systems were "large" compared to today's versions.

As far as the needed signals, they can be found in the radio harness. For my system, you had to tap into the 12V power, backup and ground for the trunk mounted main unit that holds the CD/DVD. An external antenna mounts outside on the back of the car. The external antenna is a 'good' thing since mounted as it is, all of the 'sky' can be seen meaning that 6 to 7 sats are visible so better navigation is provided.

I mounted it externally b/c I knew that the newer systems would be all self-contained so I can remove this one with no problems. Building it in is a much easier task today b/c of the small size.

Personally, If I were to do it again, I'd use one of the newer, small, portable GPS as evidenced by Garmin, Tom-Tom, etc.

Here's my system in my 126. It's kind of rednecked together till I get a better mount for the screen, though everything else is pretty much finalized....
