W124, 1992 400E ipod question.
Hello,
I have an all stock audio set up in the car and have been using a tape adapter to listen to my ipod. The tape player seems to be on its last legs, so I am looking for information on a direct AUX hook up (i want to keep the stock head unit). I have read about the AUX input being installed for $100 on the back of the head unit. This car had a disc changer in the trunk that I pulled because I never used it. Could I splice into that wiring to make an AUX input without pulling the head unit? Any information would be greatly appreciated. L |

There are adpater plug/cable that will use the changer socket to provide the Aux IN but you'll still have to pull the headunit, which is a bit easier than pulling up carpet to get to the cable inside the cabin. You'll need to identify if you have a Becker or Alpine headunit to get the proper cable.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I took a look through my vehicle documentation and I believe I have a becker unit. Do the Becker and Alpine look identical? This link is the same as the unit I have: Also the serial number for the radio starts with BE in my documentation. Is there a wiki or any links that you know of for removing the headunit? Do you know what the adapter usually costs? Thanks again, L |
