Where does black wire go 84 300D?

This wire comes from the (cannot recall the word) thing that chooses between the floor, defrost, etc. At least I believe it does. It does not come from the climate control panel.

I found the wire while attempting to take a rattle away from the stereo. I also found that the previous owner did some "special" wiring for the stereo and thats why I don't have a rear driver working window.

anyhow, where should this wire connect up to? I looked for a a little while and couldn't find anything.

year, model, interior color, and waist size please.

If you have an '85 w123, that certainly goes to the 'stock' radio.

I think there are other years that don't have that plug on the radio.

That wouldn`t be a hot wire (12V) with a bare end. might be a ground wire for an after mkt radio?

when I first saw it i was thinking for the cigarette lighter, but that is a two wire white plug as I remember.

sorry, thought i had a signature with my vehicle. 84 300D, tan interior, 29-30 waist.

not the cigar lighter, connected and working
it's plug radio, right side of picture

would love it if it was the power antenna but simply thought the motor was burned up.

radio does work but reception is poor. the previous owner obviously didn't know what he was doing because I have a brown and some other color wire cut and hanging free.

touched the wire. not hot.

i tried to trace the line to its source but could not locate it in the short time i had. I did find that the antenna switch is connected by two wires. the only connection to be made with the antenna is that is the wires for it and this wire is bound by the same zip-tie.

now that i have time i'll look into the wiring schematics.

Touching the wire isn't going to tell you if its hot or not, for the same reason you can touch both terminals on a battery with you hands and nothing will happen, assuming your not standing in a puddle of water. You aren't really very conductive.

I'd pull out a multimeter and test it to see if it's got voltage with the key off and with the key on. If not then test it to see if it's grounded. If it's a ground, which I would assume since the connector is bare, then it must

got shocked several times at work today. thought my car might do the same thing with a hot wire and that would not have been the first time by a car. i'm conductive. got titanium in the skull.

and i have seen that monty python. thanks for the laugh.

Ii have found that this wire is in fact the antenna wire. But as it goes it does only up to the "up and down" switch.

I looked behind the radio and climate control unit to see if there is something to hook it up to. I am assuming it does not go to the stereo because it is a switch for the antenna.

After also figuring out the reason my rear driver side window doesn't work i decided to revive this thread. (the reason the window doesn't work is because the previous owner hacked up the wires under the console in an attempt to wire a stereo in. what i am asking now is, " is it likely that the wire to the antenna, the connection i cannot find going to the antenna, has also been cut? should it be in an obvious location? or should i get a flashlight and try to find the connection based on a location suggested by any one of you?"

that was 3 questions, not one like i said.

If the PO hacked up a rear window switch to install a stereo I would be very concerned about the rest of the car and its "maintenance" along with other "modifications". There are about 50 other, much easier places to tap into 12V+... Honestly your best bet is to get a decent multimeter and start tracing circuits. As far as your antenna wire, it looks like the antenna reception wire (usually the thickest) which usually has an end similar to an RCA A/V cable, but somebody plucked that connector off for a different one.
Also note that this is a double wire, I assume one being a ground but not sure on that. If the two wires were simply cut and crimped together into the same circuit I imagine that would ruin any chance of reception.

Had mine apart for a rewire the other day. That definitely looks like the power antenna wire...

Already did an engine swap, and have since redone most everything save sub frame bushings, cv-axles, and a couple other bushings.

so it is confirmed that this is the antenna wire. as i thought. however, the one the picture (TBO's) is currently installed on the radio. However, the wire that I have posted as a picture is to the antenna switch to make it go up and down, not to give stereo reception.

i need to know where the wire i posted goes to. but it's likely i'll just trace the wire from the physical antenna.

Factory radio? If so then look up the Becker site for your specific radio. It should just connect to the back of the radio.

It may be this one, for a Grand Prix: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=261691&highlight=prix

http://www.tehnomagazin.com/Auto-radio-car-connector/Becker-Car-Radio-Wiring-Connector.htm

If not the Grand Prix, then check the Becker radio sticky at the top of the multimedia forum for specifics on your model.

All that wire does is control/pass on the "trigger" for the antenna to go up/down. It won't get power until it's plugged into the radio. If you have an aftermarket radio with a power antenna feature, it should connect to the blue "accessory" or antenna wire. It sends a "the radio is turned on switched +12v" to the antenna which uses power from a different fuse for the always-on +12 at the antenna.

I've posted a few radio/antenna schematics in different threads. Do an advanced search for "antenna" from Yak.
