How do I remove my DIN radion from my 92 300E? I had an aftermarket installed, an Eclipse 5443. I just ordered a new one so I need to know how to get this one out and install the new one. It has like a bezel on it, around the HU. I have figured out how to remove the whole console except for the radio.

You'll simply need to remove the ash tray. Best way is to remove the console wood first, then open the ashtray, remove the insert, then remove the 2 screws now exposed. The ashtray interlocks with the radio, so it has to come out first.

I know how to do that, but how do I get the radio itself out?

It simply slides out...if you still have trouble, insert some sort of small hook into the cassette port and pull the radio out.

Are you sure it is not attached somehow on the inside? It won't pull out, tried that. And I am not going to stich something in the CD port of a $550 HU!

Perhaps the stereo installer got a bolt or two into the HU, or installed a "backing strap". Some of these guys seem to install car electronics thinking "I'm going to make it hard to change *anything* with my installation."
