Analog Phone E320

HI ALL.
my car (1997 e320) came with ananlog car phone. it all works as i am able to call 611 cust.care from it.
the call hooks up to verizon wireless but they and all the other providers i have tried do not offer analog service anymore.

i am in south florida......i am told that if the phone is connecting i must be able to use as i am getting someone's signal.

is this phone useless????
anybody that has had this problem??

thanks

I just got my analog phone reconnected on Tuesday. The carrier that did it for me was Cingular. They were previously Southwestern Bell and had the most extensive analog network. If you can't get it hooked up, please don't rip it out. Someone in the future will be really tickled to find an original factory phone that was not cut out of the car with a butcher knife.

An analog phone is a real plus for me since I live really deep in the boondocks where a digital phone is useless.

Good luck,

yes i will not rip it out. it is so clear and i have also noticed that i could use it in an emergency to dial 911.
i will try the network you suggested? do you perhaps have a contact persons name and tel. number even if it is your local person?
everybody i have talked to here says it is not available

thanks for your reply!

I had good luck getting a plan for my analog phone with Verizon.

When I was shopping for the plan, I called the "call center" and basically got nowhere.

Then I drove to the store and explained my situation to the manager. The paperwork and the actual hook up took about ten minutes.

I use it on a very limited basis, but, when I have needed it, it works fantastically well.

Best regards,

I just acquired a '97 S320 in primo condition - including the factory phone. I have had Verizon cell service for many years and currently have a trimode nationwide plan (uses digital and/or analog). Did you folks have the factory phone set to your existing cell phone number or did you have to get a second phone number for the car phone? Sure would be nice if the car phone was just another handset for my existing number.

Thanks in advance for any insight. This board is fabulous.

Yes, it will have to be a second number. I have a family plan with cingular that allows me to share minutes between my in car analog phone and my digital handheld phone, but they are two contiguous phone numbers.

Have a great day,

Larry,

So what your saying is that...
the only way to make use of the analog car phone is by requesting a new number (additional phone on a family plan $20)... not a bad idea.

But, is there a way to clone the digital phone I have now? Just like the ones they had advertised at the back of the GOLF Magazines..Cloning Phones.

I have an olde Walker (I think it's a Walker too tired to go out and look) in my 81 SD looks like factory installed unit. Would love to get it working for same reason a Larry as we live in the far reachs of the coastal Mts. of Oregon and you have to drive way up on top one of the Forest Service roads to get a digital to work here.......

There are ways - but not recommmended. Due to all the fraud around cell phones, the carriers watch very closely to see if two phones are on the network with the same ESN - if so, your account gets shut down RFN, and you'll likely get a call from their fraud protection department.

Some carriers have a 'multi-ring' service, where someone dials your existing cell - it rings, but so do up to two more cells and a landline. I have this feature on my work phone, and my personal phone (built into the S320) rings as well. You can answer on either.

That is the same Motorola phone I have in my 96 E320 and had activated by Verizon.

Problem is, that I don't have the phone users manual....I went to the Motorola site and I downloaded a manual that seems to be VERY close to my phone and I have been able to use most functions.

Do you also have the integrated controller in the storage box on the center panel (below the car stereo head)?

Do you happen to know what that phone model number is??

TIA

This is interesting.

It is my understanding that true analog phones are not supported today -- In the Philadelphia area Cingular and Verizon do not support them -- my last true analog phone I needed to use a pin to complete the call.

I was shocked to see that many of the current phones will not even support all three networks. Some of the benz setups even though they are old are actually able to work because the phones were developed within the euro setup -- This is actually taking over the USA.

I remember having phones that said "digital" on them -- actually when it came down to the nuts and bolts, they were not! -- and some of the old old Nokia units actually were

Keep this Phone!

Even if you can't reactivate this phone, please keep it, as you still have FREE access to 911 Emergency services available to you. And as a bonus, you can always call '911, even if the phone is locked.

The above is true of ANY deactivated cell phone in both the US and Canada.

Nope..I don't have the controller below the stereo.

I don't see a model# on the manual or on the phone.
