Windshield sticker on '72 108 body

Howdy,

I just saw a "Daimler Benz" or "Mercedes Benz" window sticker for sale and wondered if this was standard on my car ('73 280 SEL 108 body).

If you'all have one, could you please tell me what exactly it says? These aren't expensive and it would make a nice addition.

Thanks,

Sholin

It says across the top " a Daimler Benz Product". Then below that is G. Daimler's signature. Mine has turned brown from age but I can still read it. It's basicly a sticker showing that the car passed the factory's quality check. For years Hondas, Subarus etc. had "OK" stickers on them. I don't know when Mercedes started using them. I know that MBCA sells them for about $1.50, but you have to be a member to buy from their "store".

If you can get one, it's one of the cheapest things you can buy that gives the car an original look. Versus replacement chrome pieces and tail light lenses.

First, sorry for the double post. I don't know how that happened. Second, when did they change the wording of the stickers? Like I mentioned my windshield, hell all the windows, are original. So I have the "old" sticker. I should replace my windshield due to 21 years of pitting and wiperblade "streaks". However if I replace the windshield I don't think there would be any way of saving and reusing the original "...product" sticker.

Thanks for all your replies.

Rick, I've got the same delima: A windshield with 29 years of use on it. I may try to polish it this summer, but I may shop around for a new one. Then, I'd be interested in putting the correct windshield sticker on it.

I had also thought of just buying glass polishing kit, but first I called around just to see what a glass shop would charge. Every and I mean every shop said they don't polish glass for one simple reason, you end up with a wavy appearance. Much like looking through waves of heat. Unless you can apply perfect uniform pressure through out the whole process, you're going to get this wavy appearance. I had asked for a price quote to replace my windshield and I was told $275 installed.
Now of course I took this advice with a grain of salt, after all they are in the business of selling new windshields. I may try to polish it anyways, hell I can't make my field of vision any worse.

Hello again, I just went to the MBCA website and the windshield stickers they are selling say "a Daimler-Benz Product" with G. Daimler's signature. They are $1.50. Here is the downside to this. MBCA like alot of other outfits, charge shipping based on the price of the item, not weight. This I think is a scam. For MBCA any products costing $0-$20, the shipping charge is $4.95. Being it that this sticker weights nothing and can fit in any regular mail envelope, it should cost 34 cents. Now I know the $4.95 is actualy for "shipping and handling", but what does it cost to slip a sticker into an envelope.
Sorry for venting there. Anyways this sticker, through MBCA would cost $6.45.

The dealership I work at has these in stock, not to suggest I/we want to sell them to everyone on the net, but maybe if you check your local dealer, they will also have them in stock.......Gilly

I agree with Gilly, try your local dealership. This way you don't have to pay the "shipping and handling" charge. Of course if your "local" dealer is not so "local", then maybe just to same you from the inconvience of travel and time, you can order it over the internet. The nearest MB dealer to me is 35-45 min. away.

Yes, there were two stickers. One was "Mercedes-Benz" and the other is "Diamler-Benz".

I believe (and I could be wrong - senior moment time again) that the DB is the current sticker since MB was "absorbed" by Daimler a few years back. Anyhow, last year, the DB sticker was the only one my dealer had in stock and he said it was the "current item".

The part number for the Daimler_Benz window sticker is
115 584 06 40 and my dealer charged $1.95 each.

The part number for the Mercedes-Benz sticker is (or was) 129 584 08 38.

Dan

Rick,

Yeah, I know what you mean about the waviness. I probably will buy the kit and try it anyway. The only downside is I'll have to replace the windshield, which is the only alternative anyway.

Dan, etc... Thanks a bunch. I'll drop by my local dealer this week and see if they stock them.

Man, this board sure does a thorough job of getting to the bottom of things. Thanks alot for the info...

Speaking of "absorbing". Will future stickers say Daimler-Chrysler on them. It would be a crying shame to see that name on a classic Benz, or even a new for that matter.
Dan, it's funny how your dealer worded it..."current sticker". My car's windshield is original and it has the Daimler-Benz sticker. I guess for a while they made "Mercedes-Benz" stickers then switched back.

I don't know if it was different for '69 models but the sticker on my windshield is located 3 inches from the side and 1 3/4 inches from the bottom. Of course the sticker is to follow the curve of the windshield. Though I am sure anywhere in the vicinity would be fine. Unless your entering your car in a concours event, I don't see where being off a little bit would cause a problem.
