Wheels,wheels,wheels

Does anybody out there have a good trick to keeping the wheels clean and unpitted?? Brake dust is awful. I have tried Mothers with a rag and a polish wheel. Its a real pain. Any ideas on how to keep them decent? Seems I gotta do this every two weeks or better.

1) Avoid heavy braking, allow the car to decelerate using downshifting when necessary and that will reduce the dust somewhat (buts its still going to be there!)
2) clean your wheels and wax the metal surfaces with a good paste wax Carnuba is fine, even though American Wheels sells their own stuff, the result is probably the same. That makes it a little easier to clean them but you should rewax them again after cleaning.
3) Switch to low-dust pads. I like Porterfield R4S (excellent pads!) second choice would be PBR Deluxe and they leave a light grey dust that is way less then OE. Avoid the Akebono ceramic pads because they have much lower stopping power especially when cold. If you want brakes that really grab then OE or Textars with all the nasty blackish dust is what you have to live with.

I use the stuff in the pic. If you have years of neglect, you may need to media blast 'em. I did have a set refinished, and keep them clean.

best thing to do like previously mentioned is degrease them with a wheel cleaner and wax them if painted.

Install dust shields on your front brakes. Did a great job for my '81 300SD.

Try PBR pads, they don't dust up as badly as other brands.

Blow them off with compressed air daily and wash and wax weekly.
