1997 E320

I recently purchased a mint 1997, E320.
Everything looks great except the interior (ignition) keylock. It once had a beautifull plastic chrome trim (ring) inserted into it. Now it is peeling off and looks like a very cheap detail. Strange for a 4 year MERCEDES the best detailed car in the world??

Mercedes Benz USA offered to replace the whole lock , naturally for a huge price, ridiculous.
Do you know how it can be solved, or who sells such chrome interior trim to be added to hide the ugly existing one?
