Transmission fluid wicking into computer on 1997 E320
Hey guys,
Well, it looks like we may have found the cause of the limp home issue on my 1997 E320. Trans fluid was wicked up through the wiring harness and into the ETC. There is quite a bit of fluid in the computer (1-2 ounces). I have a few questions: Does anyone happen to know the part number for the new adapter at the trans that was redesigned? My indie doesn't know nor does Phil and Fastlane. Indie tells me that they usually just replace o-rings. I did a search but came up empty. What are the chances that this ETC isn't ruined after being soaked in trans fluid? I am going to have them attempt to clean with elctric parts cleaner and reinstall. Finally, I know that the ETC is VIN specific and programmable via the HHT. But, if I get a used one from Ebay that is already coded can it be reporogrammed? Thanks so much!! Brian |

140-270-02-50 is the NUMBER for the connector
Most of the time the ECU is DONE when fluid gets into the circuit board. IF you get a used ECU that came from the same type of car it will have the same program coding.

Thank you so much!! I appreciate you taking the time to look up the part number and reply. I will pass it along to my mechanic. I ordered a new (used) ETC from Car-Parts for $150. The nice part is that it is the most recent ETC (020 545 92 32) that I will have programmed to the car and hopefully eliminate the shift flare blamed on my old unit.
Thanks again! Brian |
