Question Brake dust inserts for winter use?

Hey guys:

Every day I look at my once beutiful wheels and cry because with all the snow we've had I haven't been able to clean them in a month or so. I can't even see the wheels under the layer of brake dust!

Meanwhile a friend of mine with a 300-SDL has immaculately clean wheels (who ironically rarely washes his car, unlike I). He has the inserts behind them for preventing build up of brake dust. I've never used them because of the extr heat caused by less wind over the calipers.

Would it still be okay to use them only in the winter since it's colder outside?

Thanks for any advice!!
