I just drove my first manual trany 240D

Car was w/o tags, so the drive was VERY limited. I put a little over 30,000 miles on my 240D in a year, so I am familiar with the power, or lack thereof. The manual version was a delight to drive, but I have one question...Is it possible that the manual tranny version is a little slower off the line than the automatic? Granted that my drive was very short, and I had some uphill starts from a dead stop, it still seemed a little slower to, say 20 mph, than my automatic.
Car is listed in the "for sale" section. I can not buy it at this time, but offered to list it as a favor to the seller.
