I just drove my first manual trany 240D

Car was w/o tags, so the drive was VERY limited. I put a little over 30,000 miles on my 240D in a year, so I am familiar with the power, or lack thereof. The manual version was a delight to drive, but I have one question...Is it possible that the manual tranny version is a little slower off the line than the automatic? Granted that my drive was very short, and I had some uphill starts from a dead stop, it still seemed a little slower to, say 20 mph, than my automatic.
Car is listed in the "for sale" section. I can not buy it at this time, but offered to list it as a favor to the seller.

My manual is very light and peppy off the line... I have never been in an auto 240... perhaps if you floor it and the trans is set to kick down properly it might be faster... but it is hard to imagine that...

Manuals seem to respond to the throttle much quicker (thus the 'peppiness') but I think take a shade longer to get to top speed because of the briefe lag during shifts in the manual.

Granted, my experience is not in 240s but between my manual-equipped 300TD and automatic 300D.

Mine seems to be quicker then the two manual trans jobs I drove. That said I don't think a 1 or 2 seconds difference in two car's that have a 0 to 60 speed of 30 minutes means anything.

240D slow but steady. :p

30,000 miles is a long way to drive a car without tags!!

Gotta know just how to slam the pedal-to-the-medal while letting go of the clutch just right to get off the line at top speed..... then be grabbing gears also with the hammer down and never below the speedometer hash marks to outrun another 240d, even an automatic.
