99 e300td on ebay may be MISREPRESENTED!

When I was looking for a e300td I found this one on ebay;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2492944953

My wife and I decided to make the 2 hour trip to Portland to look at this car. We had every intention of buying. After the test drive I noticed the car had damage to the body on every panel on the passenger side. The front nose under the bumper was also damaged. The lower driving light was hanging loose. The car obviously had been in an accident.

The auction ran it's course. The highest bid was $25,100 and the reserve had not been met. The car is now back on ebay with what looks to be the identical listing. No mention of the body damage or any repair has been suggested. The auction lists the car as "...perfect! Paint is pristine..."

This car may be shipped without the buyer being aware of the damage or any subsequent repair. Does anyone find this fraudulent?

The original asking price was $31k. The car came from Illinois from an auction.

They should list that the car has damage to it.

I agree. The damage, however minor, should be documented in pictures and posted in the listing. If this car was delivered to me like it was I would have been looking for a lawyer.

BTW the engine had a slight vibration from about 1200 to 2000 rpm. I don't know what to think about that.

The worst of the dents are on the lowest part of the doors in the center of the car. The dents had a ripple to them that seemed to suggest that they had been pulled on by a suction cup. I feel bad for the people bidding.

$31,000 is a ridiculous price. For that money you should get a single owner car with records of meticulous maintence, under 50K miles, and in pristine condition. Even then that price may be a little high.

Value of the car as you've described it is more like 15-17K.

I did ask that question. They said they would fix the damage but the price would not change.

Ebay should have some means of blocking ads from certain sellers sort of like Yahoo does on it's boards now. By having such a feature we could all block off those that misrepresent their products and perhaps that would be an incentive for those sellers to be more truthful.

Of course, this will never happen as ebay doesn't reallly care about the transactions details they just like the fees.

Without saying too much, I personally would not buy a car from this outfit. I have visited them (www.nwicars.com) and they carry a lot of high-end stuff. But I believe they are slicksters and based on what others have told me, and from what I have observed, let me just say I'm not surprised at this thread. this is only my opinion though.

Sad to hear that you had to come all the way to portland to find this out though. Next time, ask a local to check out the car for you in person before coming all the way. I do it all the time for people who ask.

Cheers,
Gerry
