The chauffer is supposed to know how to check the fluids, not the owner.

Not sure of the exact name of the cap and its not a 70's model anyway-its a 1947.

The owner of the Rolls told me that the radiator cap was only available for one or two years. It is some kind of KNEELING figure and he says the kneeling example is the most rare cap.

He imported the car direct from England and it belonged to someone related to the queen. The car was in the same family for all its life until my buddy purchased it some 15 years ago. He has relatives who live in England and heard that the car was for sale. He'd kill me if he knew I told you all this--he paid $350k for it back in '89 and that does not include shipping

Of course, the car is a right hand drive. The coolest feature to me is the window cranks. 1/2 turn and the window is all the way down. It is absolutely in pristine coindition. The thing drives like a truck though. But the 12 cyclinder motor is surprsingly quiet. The ignition switch is weird-you have to turn it in a circle about 4 or 5 times and then hit the foot starter.

One day, if I can figure out how to post pics, i'll get a picture or two for you all.

Cheers,

Bill

So the hood orniment is the radiator cap? I like that I keeps theft down!

I was looking at a Rolls the other day on a used car lot! It deals with a lot of older Euro cars, it must have been from the 80's I know nothing about them. It looked like a nice car I didn't sit in it or go threw it but I wasn't really terrible impressed. It didn't look like anything that a mid 80's Jag didn't offer. I guess the quality is high it looked like real wood on the inside that you can sand down and refinish. But they never had the big budgets that Mercedes had so I wonder how their technoligy compares? I don't think the mid 90's ones are much better then an S600 or V12 Jag sedan.

Although one day I will probably own one.

Quite to the contrary-he will not take his eyes off that car while out for fear of someone stealing his cap. One twist and it's gone.
You're right about the 80's ones. They are not much different than the Jag.

And you would be surprised what my buddys '47 looks like. It has the lines of a car from the '20s. I thought the A/C was pretty high tech for the day.

Cheers,

Bill

What I ment was if some poor sucker pulled off one of those after the cooling system was good and hot!

I was looking at two large rolls in a wearhouse last year, they must have been from the 50's they looked like a prewar car. They were huge and looked like their was a lot of steel in them!
