You would never catch me in an old Lada.. well, any Lada for that matter. Though it might be fun to see how often it would break down...

My DO NOT BUY list:
ANY ford truck after 1979 all ford cars any GM after 68 no dodge unless it is I-6 diesel 24 v, then I might just take the engine any small car I could die in if somebody forgot that their 7000 lb suv will not stop as fast as my 1200 lb ride Soon I will be on diesel only - as soon as I get rid of the GASSER audi. and yes I am picky (hince the 126 diesel!) I would like to get my hands on a SMART car one of these days but then - back to the drunken sports/nascar fan in the SUV smashing into me thing..... looks like i'll be in the 126 until I can find somthing better! (don't get your hopes up, could be another 20 years or so - I might just resort to importing a few diesels from europe - mmmmm vito van....)

Did anyone mention Yugo??? What a piece of crap that was. Friend bought one for driving to work, but it broke down so much he got rid of the thing. No one would buy the thing so a 2 year old Yugo went to junk yard. Wonder if they ever quit teasing him about the car? :p

Rambler American, Studebaker Lark, interesting little cars...
Both had that kind of basic charm the 240 has, although not to as refined a degree. AMC about the time it was absorbed by Renault had a very interesting product line ranging from the Jeep to the American, Matador, Hornet ("Where's the rest of your car, toots?") and AMX. Dick Teague was an AMC designer, and many of the later Studebakers were from Brooks Stevens' drawing board. Both gallant little companies that gave a lot of value for money. Studebaker parts still abound and are cheap...don't know what's available for AMC devotees.

I'm probably going to suprise a lot of MB lovers when I say I would not like to be seen inside a 70's early 80's SL. Living in Palm Springs probably explains a lot. There have to more SL's per capita here than anywhere else; almost always ladies in their 60's or 70's driving them. I don't like the styling of this era SL. the Rear wheel-well cut way lower than front wheel-well gives the car a tubby, rear heavy, rear scraping, cruiser kind of a look. It just generaly looks way to low in the back also. The CD coupe however is a beauty.

Would not want to be seen in:
Plymouth Volare Hummer Escalade A few that others have mentioned that I would have no problem being seen in: Corvair, especially if it is turbocharged Citroen, especially a DS231E. That is a gorgeous car and also an aerodynamic marvel. That company was decades ahead of other sedan manufacturers when it comes to aerodynamics. |
