What new parts should I change on my tranny conversion ?

Hey...

As you all know I'm doing an automatic to a manual conversion. It would be smart to buy few brand new parts like the clutch and pressure plate. Anything else that I should get brand new ?

Also, where would I be able to get the clutch adjusting tool....

Thank You,

Kamil

Don't forget the release bearing, front and rear seals for the tranny (a little more time, but worth it), tranny mount, new pilot bearing(s), flex disks, driveshaft carrier bearing (again, more time needed, but worth it), clutch master and slave cylinders, new flywheel bolts. You could also look into new bushings on the shift rod links.

Kamil--Hi--don't know if you saw my post to your previous posts--I am doing the same thing more or less--have 2 MBs(both 240s) one a '77 with a 4spd. and the other--an 82 with a blown motor but good tranny(auto)--am planning on taking the motor&tranny from the '77 and placing it in the 82(after the old motor and tranny are out)--all as one unit. How are you coming on your project?? Are both your motors 4 cyl. like mine??--any info appreciated--Thanks Miamimike

I'm still in the process of tearing the car up. The only thing that will be left on the body will be the tranny and the engine. Next step would be to get under the car and take about 100 pictures of everything just so I remember how everything goes together. I will most likely begin officially over thanksgiving. I'll keep everyone posted since I'll probably have a million questions...

Thanks

conversion from auto to standard.

This is one conversion that I will be doing myself if I get roundtoit. If you have not removed standard transmission from other car yet try shift length throws. Found on my old 72 250c that they were too long. Decided to someday shorten arms on transmission to reduce throw. Maybe not problem on this newer transmission series. Arms on side of older and newer version transmissions for 240d looked to be different lengths on previous threads so thought would throw this in. But maybe I am wrong. But if so the arms may be interchangeable. And in my opinion the shorter ones reduce length of shift throw.I usually have a coffee while shifting between gears on the old 250c. It did not seem practical to change the fulcrum point or shorten length of shift lever.Yes will lesson mechanical advantage a little but that is really not a problem. As for new parts. Cleaning transmission case and painting with new paint seems to help the mindset if nothing else and give the transmission a treat by changing the fluid. Any opinions? New kid on the block just 62 years old and by the time you get through this note you will be older as well. (you almost always find what you are looking for in the last place you look unfortunatly)

Smile conversion automatic to standard.

Meant to throw in this as well but when changing mindset syncros must have been bad. There are kits out there for the master and slave cylinder and if bores look good kit them. The kits are pretty cheap and cheap is one of my favorite words. Also thank you again for directing me to this forum. I hope they can stand me. But if not they will probably take it out on you. Barry.
