That's a nice looking car for that money? Why so cheap? Looks like I should do my car shopping in Texas!

Long story. This was/is the Graigslist car that is on another thread in the diesel forum...basically, it was a liability to the owner; they needed cash and to be rid of the car since the apartment complex where they live was threatening to tow it this week. I was there with cash and a solution.

Right now, the battery is DOA and the engine barely makes enough power to pull the thing out of the driveway, the insides look like someone has been living in it and the trunk is completely full of junk that needs to go to Goodwill.

On the good side, it starts easy when you jump it, there isn't any oil in the coolant, it doesn't have any death rattles and shifts great. I'm guessing a pair of fuel filters and I'll be rolling fine.

Exactly what is the squeeze test? I've heard about it, but don't know exactly how to perform it (I know it's not rocket science) and what the results tell me.

if they don't know the squeeze test they wouldn't know about the infamous #14 head
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=103444&highlight=om603+head
better get out the flashlight, Randy, and find the serial number on the head casting! else you might not sleep well at night, OTOH, its only $600 so you can part that thing out if the heads warped and still come out way ahead.
If however you get it running right, you may just fall in love with the beast, IMHO the 603's are best diesels on the road, provided you don't have head problems.

the squeeze test defined

as gsxr calls it: "high cold pressure" symptom, this is a test for the curse of the aluminum head crack syndrome.
A minute crack in the casting allows combustion gas to enter the coolant system and this pressure stays there overnight (unless the head gasket or a hose is leaking).
The test is simple: In the morning, with a cold engine, pinch the upper rad hose. It should be soft if there's no gas behind it and it will compress easily. If its ballooned because of gas you got da problem!

You don't have room

My driveway has more room for Marlene than yours does now.
She'd look nice next to my gold one.
Are you sure you're allowed to block the sidewalk like that?
