Smile temporary hood release cable fix

Last night I came up with a short-term fix to the stretched hood release cable problem. I took the metal end cap from a bicycle brake cable and made a longitudinal slit in it with a dremel tool cutting wheel. I then pulled the cable housing out of the handle under the dashboard and inserted the modified bicycle cable end cap on the end of the cable housing. It fit perfectly and now the hood opens.

I assume the cable will continue to stretch so I have ordered a replacement. In the meantime, I can open the hood! Better yet it costs nothing!

a little dab'll do ya

yep, i just make a 'temporary' fix, too:

to those who come after: just cut a short (5/8") section of some 1/8" clear hose...put a slit in the sid so it'll go over the cable and slide it up into the release handle to act as a spacer and create more tension. took 8 minutes and cost = 0.

rock.

Do you have to go to the dealer for a hood release? I didn't see one at Fast Lane.

Regularly shoot some PB-Blaster or similar into the cable to prevent seizing!
