Newby intro/few q's

Hello all. This site was recommended to me by some friends on a Toyota Land Cruiser forum. I own 3 Cruisers and love everyone of them, but the gas is killing me. I have always been fond of 300TD's and also am very interested in biodiesel/wvo. I am looking at a '84 300TD Estate. It is perfect but has 280K and the seller is sticking firm to $4000. Is this too many miles/too much money? I have been lurking for a few days and am very impressed. It is the same format as my favorite LC forum. Glad to be here and thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum!

The three most important and repeated words when requesting info here? Search, search, search....

A lot of your issues have already been discussed at length. For a start, search on the following topics: rust, wagon prices, SLS...read what you find there and come back with your tough questions.

FWIW, 4k sounds a tad steep but for a really well maintained example with NO, ZERO, NADA rust, it might be an acceptable price.

Hey,
Sounds a little steep to me too. Did you search on kelly blue book (KBB) or edmunds for list price?

Rust would be the main thing to look for. Check jack points, wheel wells, undercarriage, etc.
Also, are there service records? I would want to know that a car that old was well maintained.
Take it for a test drive. check for drifting while driving. Steering wheel play, odd noises. Does it smoke from the tailpipe?
It's almost a given that it will need some work.

Welcome! Yep I almost purchased a Landcruiser until i found out they are gas guzzlers and eat lots of tires and brakes. But my 4runner, lifetime keeper, has been good to me all around.

Yoho. IH8mudders.

japanese wannabees? Please. Don't wish that on me. I have '67 landrover. If my '94 cruiser started acting like the rover I would be in big trouble. My newest to me car is an '85 300D....I've been assembling parts for a rehab festival when the weather warms up alittle bit. So far I'm on the hook for oil cooler lines, engine shocks, engine mounts, trannny mount, valve adjustment, power steering filter, fuel filters, and lube oil filters....that should get me into the leak (oil/vac) chasing arena.....

Can't help myself....I'm an attention whore! Here's my pics

Paid way too much for the green one and way too little for the white one.. so now I can sleep. Both are 76'

Cruisers have alot of the heavy duty long wear engineering built in like that of Mercedes Benz... that's why I like em!

Good lookin' 'cruisers! I had a green '72 model and a tan '68. They're bombproof! My '68 had a 3-speed column shift.
