Diesel Purge Substitute ??
I have been unable to locate a supply of Diesel Purge here in the Tampabay, FL area. I have ordered it in the past, but was just wondering if anyone has some thoughts on the following.....The 617.950 engine will run on pure Diesel Purge, will it run on some of the similiar products such as Gumout's Concentrated Diesel Fuel Injector Cleaner? Maybe a 50/50 mix with #2 diesel? How about Diesel Kleen? Thanks for your comments.

No...I would not recomend that.
Only use a product according to the directions. You can order Lubro moly on this site. |

I've used diesel kleen and noticed that my wallet was lighter. Mileage never improved or anything like that. Same with Gumout. I took the injectors off and had someone flush them for me to see the pattern and it was a good pattern so I am happy.
I thought there were many places you could get the Diesel Purge Prostitute? Try the corner of 5th and Main. ![]() ![]()

Diesel Purge Substitute
Of course, my question was not whether it was reccommended or not, nor whether it would actually clean the injectors, nor its effect if placed in the fuel tank. My question is...will the engine run on the stuff if it is used by itself as I have done with Diesel Purge, or....does it need to be mixed with some proportion of diesel fuel. I readily acknowledge the superiority of Diesel Purge, but I can buy other products at the corner store. Thanks anyway.

Read the ingredients. If you look at diesel purge it is about 65% diesel fuel. Most products designed to go into the tank do not have diesel in it so I would suspect it does not run. If you can find the injector cleaner that has the purging ingredients at the same ratio as diesel purge and mix it with an appropriate amount of diesel you would have your own diesel purge. However I doubt the ingredients exist out there. So don't reinvent the wheel. Get some purge!

I don't use the diesel purge.
I've been reasonably pleased with using 12 oz. of Power Service Conditioner to 20 gallons of fuel on the 603. I use it for every fillup. The cost is about $2.00 per tank. This engine remains exceptionally clean and offers a better pedal response when the Power Service is used. I have not tried it in the 617 yet. |

Brian,
You're using about 2X the amount of PS prescribed for 'every tank'. 'Normal' use yields 300 gallons trated per 96-oz bottle. My 'marbles in a bucket' GM (Detroit Diesel) 6.5 TD quiets noticeably when I add the PS. ![]() The E300D is not as responsive, but I have read nothing but praise about this product - and it can be found at Walmart near all the motor oils (don't worry, not going there, suffice to say I use only synthetics in my machines)
