Previous owner tricks

For better or for worse I'm about to embark on rehabbing my car that I got about a month ago. In researching how to replace motor mounts it appears that some people have experienced missing heat shield. I fully expect that to be the case with my car but am wondering what other likely "fixes" are commonly encountered....I'm not there yet but as I assess and trouble shoot the vac. systems I'm reasonably confident that the orfice(s) will have been removed....What other things should I keep an eye out for.

So I think I'm missing aheat shield between the turbo/exhaust manifold and battery, the heat shields for the motor mounts, what else????

Along the same limes..what pieces are a "pain" for mechincs that just plain get removed but accidentally don't get re-installed....

Hmmm

Hello stayalert
Presume you have a W123 300D.
A little junk yard shopping should help answer some of your question, seeing it in person is better + you may find some of the parts you need, cheap.

Some pictures of your engine, interior, trunk and exterior would help us guess at what may be missing.

Thanks for the tips...I need to get to a junk yard. I havn't been in (It saddens me to admit this - several years) We were driving West on the Mass. Pike during Easter weekedn and we got a view of a junkyard....I was salivating and my wife was treasing me about it...It was amusing in a "had to be there" sort of way.....Cheers!
