I thought that the way to check the tranny fluid level is to leave the car in idle and the gear in park and when the car is at operating temperature. I still say it is the clutches in the tranny that slip when it gets warm or the pump has issues.

That's generally correct. Perhaps you missed the post where Yen says that the car will not move, so getting the transmission to operating temperature is not practical.

I agree with Tangofox that not a fuel issue....When was the trans fluid adn filter last changed.......I thing two quarts of Trans-X after a drain with the balance the correct trans fluid.....it may not help but then it just night.

The main issue is whether the engine is running when you checked the trans fluid?

When cold, it will check a bit low, but, not seriously low enough to prevent shifting.

Ok, when I checked the trans fluid level yesterday, with engine at operating temperature and idling, the fluid level was actually a little high. Now you could say it is overfilled but I have no problems with the transmission for 6mths since I changed the fluid and filter, so I don't think I can trust that reading. But I would change the fluid and look for metal shavings hopefully this weekend when I get back in town just to cover all my bases. Thank you guys for all the opinions.

I think you have checked the trans properly and covered your bases.

Metal shavings would not cause the trans to function for two minutes and then suddenly not function.

It sounds like a more serious transmission problem that is temperature related, I'm sorry to tell you.
