Where to buy drip tube

Hello,

I was wondering where I can buy the famous drip tube used to time the injection timing on a OM617 powerplant. I have never seen one advertized anywhere. I must be looking in the wrong places.

Try Ebay Motors, there is one there every week or two.

Can't you just make one from a spare injector line?

It can be made from a spare injector line pretty easily, but not everyone has one. If you do, drill it out some before you bend it, because the ID is pretty small. I didn't, but I think the drips would form more distinctly if I had.

And that was my second mistake this month. Last week I misread a wiring diagram, and now I have messed up a stock number. I do apologize for any inconvience that I might have caused.
And I just mailed my tax return today. I thought that refund seemed a little high.....

Don't worry. I'm sure they will only have a friendly chat with you. Just be sure to bring some lube so it doesn't hurt so bad.

Thanks for the lead. It's the best price so far. As for drilling out an injection line, I would think that if the hole is not just the right size it could foul up the 1 drop per second drip. I have a spare injection line but the idea of having the correct tool appeals to me more, especially for just 22$.

don't get me wrong, I think you should buy the tool too. I suggested drilling it out because the injector lines are really thick, and I saw a picture of the tool once, and it seemed like the ID was much bigger. Drilling out the open end before it was cut at an angle would have provided more surface area and increase the drop period somewhat. I made the tool because I really like doing stuff like that, this is my hobby, AND I'm a cheap bas****. Buy the tool, and post here what the ID is. You can get pretty close by using a drill shank as a pin gage.

Pete,

I am also a cheap bas**** and also a hobby machinist/welder. I've machined and repaired more parts and toold/fixtures than you can imagine. My shop is well equipped with a lathe and milling machine. However, I do know that I would not be able to properly drill an injection line, and then bend it like the drip tube. If the tube is not perfect, then the timing won't be either. I'm gonna buy the tube and I'll let you know the hole diameter.

I believe you are giving this design much more credit at sophistication than it really deserves. The principle here is to measure the flow rate. All the drip tube needs to accomplish is a seal at the top of the injector and a tube that makes a 150 to 180 degree bend that you can easily see the drips per unit time. The diameter of the tube could be anywhere from 1/8" to 1/2"...I think mine is about 3/8". The length and diameter of the tube is inconsequential; the longer/bigger it is the longer it takes to fill up and start dripping...but after its full, the the drip rate tells you the flow rate. You literally could watch the fuel drip off the bottom of the IP and establish the drip rate without a tube, but the tube is neat and more predictable.

My $.02 worth.

I was just about to say the same thing. We are not talking about rocket science here, as long as there is an ID, the drip rate will not vary by any meaningful amount, like 0.001%.
