Dumb 606 turbo question

The turbo in my E300 may need service/rebuilt in the distant future (making strange noise when cold, pushing more oil past the turbo seals than I'd like to see).. I was considering looking into a performance turbo for it.. or a custom built job as a replacement..

I am wondering what else would need to be done to the entire turbo system to gain more performance without the aide of computer reprogramming.. how do the finns do it on there turbo 606's??

I don't see why you want more performance from the turbo. The main item limiting the performance of the vehicle is fuel. I don't know the specifics of the 606, but, I'm sure the turbo has additional capability beyond the current wastegate setting.

If you really want to push more power from it, you need to do the whole deal:
Larger turbo, reworked IP, and an intercooler. Very costly and time consuming to do. But, it certainly will spin the tires.

My thinking is.. more boost, computer will sense this and compenste by delivering more fuel.

Not 100% sure how the 606 is set up.. but I know there are a few Finns on this board who know them inside and out.

Could be?

Can you adjust the wastegate on them for more boost??

If you really want more power, your best bet is with SpeedtuningUSA, one of there chips. The way the finns did it was take the 606 turbo engine and transplant it into a 95 w124, with the 603 mechanical injection pump. To make a super diesel in the W210 body would be get a custom ecu program or to get rid of it and make it all mechanical. Check out this site for more info on it. http://mersuforum.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=29

Oh yea, also you can only make so much more power with the stock turbo. The most boost you crank out of it, the more heat it produces and you will eventually melt something, as the finns already have.
