Those particular ones general can carry a slight premium in price as the 87wagon was the last diesel wagon to be imported/sold in the US, not to mention it has the more powerful I6 and 124 chassis in terms of handling/body etc.....I wouldn't mind having one (obviously in addition to the one I have)

I would list it for $8,500, and see what offers you get. W124 wagons are rear and people want them so prices tend to be higher.

Sounds like a nice, well cared for car. But with north of 200K miles, lots of potential buyers are going to be scared off. I wouldn't pay even $5K, personally. Go any higher, and you're in the same price range as a gasser 124 wagon that is five years newer and has 100K fewer miles.

New compressor or not, this is going to be a problem for you in Georgia. Early W124 cars are poor candidates for conversion to start with, and the extra volume of the wagon just makes it that much worse. I'll agree with JimY and say don't go over $5,000.

When was valve job done? I would be worried that it had a bad head and they did a valve job thinking that was the problem. Not all cracks are visible. That being said, sounds like a nice wagon. I think 5-6 would be tops for me.

You could ask him what he is basing his selling price on. Perhaps having a ppi inspection done as they usually find some issues. That may improve your bargening position. Had a lovely experience last night. Neibour dropped by to tell me a mint looking inside and out I998 bank repo mercedes diesel went through the local car no reserve auction for 4300 canadian or about 3500 american with no reserve. Did not identify the model though. Had less than 120k. I was there the previous week to help my son in law buy a car. Timing seems to be everything sometimes.
