an idea for group purchase

Hello all

been away much too long - and damn I forgot how great y'all are as well as this board.

Ok- So I am in the middle of replacing a lower control arm on my 85 300D
it's on my trailer and I have to fix it to get it off.

I have heard a few words spoken on the Mercedes jack stand adapters that resemble the " Pole Jack ' head we all have

but no more discussion- so I wonder if these are still available would they not be a good candidate for group purchase?

dont know how to advance this beyond my mention- in hopes someone knows about these - or has fabricated something like them.

I am intrepid with car repairs- a professional of sorts - yet I have to say that with the job i am doing i do not feel so safe with my jack stand on a block of wood under the sill just below the jack point hole

share your ideas if you will

peace:

I feel the same way.

The jackstand has a piece of wood between itself and the body. I'd feel a whole lot safer if the jackstand protruded right into the jackpoint and no contact with the outer body was made.

On the back of the SDL, the rubber supports were resting directly on the jackstand. I did not like it one bit.

I never get under a car until I feel completely safe no exceptions. Most the time i keep a pile of wooden blocking around and double up on what even looks safe. You generally are not allowed one error in this area. Also I do not think it is paranoiia to overdo it. It's funny about human beings in my opinion. I would not want to be known as that poor guy up the road that had his car fall on him for the 50 years after I was a hamburger paddy. Just my opinion. Others may vary. If you do not feel safe and comforatable the stress is just not worth it either.. If you have a compulsion to gamble do it with the opposite sex. They too can make mincemeat out of you but at least you will survive....maybe....

agreed - but remember the female is the more deadly of the species

I always put the tyres under the car as well just in case- as many have noted on the board - there is very little strength underneath the w123 outside of the frame rails

I usually lift the car by the pole jack and just keep putting cribbing under the foot after I set a jack stand - back and forth till I get the required height- Now imagine if you have a 2 post lift ???

all about safety- I was pondering on the fabricating something with some junk OEM pole jack heads- may investigate this

peace

I want to do my front end. So anything added to this thread would be of great interest to me as well.
