Question fuel "additives"

I have read threads on burning different "additives" in the diesel fuel. One that caught my attention was adding a quart of Automatic Transmission Fluid per tank. Does this really help lubricate some of the internal workings of the motor? What good or bad side affects will there be?

Are there other "additives" we should know about or be warrened away from?

I can't answer your questions, but I do add Dextron III
to my Diesels every so often. Not every tank full tho.

There is a product called BG-44K thats suppose to
be the bomb, but it is $19.00 to treat a tank full.

Nothing availible works better than BG44K on a gasser.....I've never tried it on my diesels yet however. On a gasser I will swear by it.

try this thread:

Personally I did put some in my fuel tank at some point in time, its easy to get hooked into something when you are open minded. If I had read this thread I would never have bothered. I use RedLine Catalyst religiously however. Maybe its a placebo but I think it does help lubricate the IP as well as raise cetane rating which is lower now than it used to be.

I just changed my screw on fuel filter and filled it up with Power service cetane boost and cleaner. Seems pretty good to me but I hadnt realized how bad the filter must have been. The small jug was only 2.99 at o'reillys. Says it treats 25 gallons with a 6# cetane boost.

I've been using Power Service myself for the last 6 months on the 603. Seems to do very well on it. Idles exceptionally quiet and never produces much smoke.
Can't vouch for any fuel economy increase, however. Might have it, might not.

i often add some marvel mystery oil and fuel cleaner to my tanks especially in winter. though when i forget to it doesnt seem to matter. i think the most important thing is to get good clean fuel.

I've just started using Howe's diesel treatment and have been getting it from the local truck stops. I think the mileage has improved some but won't say for sure until I burn a few more tanks full with average driving.
