stanley is my yellow lab

naturally there has to be a car in this. an 83 240d. crank windows and a clutch. parked on william st. this morning. was
waiting for coffee
shop to open. sitting on princess ann side. there was
this 'ted, ted stanley's loose' from friend diane. anywho, as a man
walked his
golden retriever past the car stanley went through the rear
passenger side glass and sniffed the golden. the
golden was a male. no dog fight. the
window was about half way down. maybe less. the guy
walking the golden said stanley went to the other side
of the car and with a 'running start' broke through
the glass and landed on the sidewalk. glass shattered.
and was evertwhere. including a couple of pieces on
the roof! man with golden was visibly shaken. and he
is a lawyer. just my luck. now off to the junk yard.
oh, stanley none
the worse for the wear.

Should have your dog belted in securely. Too many dogs are killed/seriously injured in minor traffic accidents because they are left to roam freely around the interior of the vehicle.

By the way, I also have a yellow lab. Last lab I will ever own-dumb as a box of rocks. Of course we didn't get her until she was over a year old and I don't think her first owner did much more than feed her.

"I also have a yellow lab."

Maybe the problem is the YELLOW part of the description... LOL
The equivalant of " Blonde".... in human terms....

I have often thought that myself.

Joel, I have known labs that were very well-trained and were smart, but ours just doesn't seem to catch on to anything. As I alluded to, she was not worked with much as a very young dog, and I think by the time we got her the zest for learning was gone. I also think if we had more time to work with her she could be better trained. Our other dogs (a rat terrier mix and a deaf jack russell) both just seem to be quicker to pick up things and figure out when they aren't supposed to do something. Of course the deaf one only knows hand signals and has an uncanny knack for conveniently looking the other way when she is in trouble, but that is just being a jack russell.

Poor dogs...

They're only as smart as their owners.

Actually having owned several dogs, I would have to say the majority are smarter than their owners. There are exceptions, though.

I have a yellow lab and a golden retreiver and find both to be very bright as a breed, very loyal, good disposition, and unconditional in their love. They are pleaser personalities ---------Could be a that you are looking for different qualities in a companion rather than their being dumb
