Power Loss 300D 2.5
Friends, I'm having trouble with acceleration on my 1990 300D 2.5. The best way to describe it is that it feels like it is lacking fuel or air- kinda "bogged down" and sluggish.
I changed the pre fuel filter, the main filter, and checked all vacuum hoses. I cleaned out the banjo. I ran diesel purge through. Could be the turbo is not kicked in? Could the motor be in Limp home mode? Are there any tests I can try to try to locate the root of the problem? I exahusted all the info in the archived posts. Thanks, John P.

Changed Air Filter
I changed the filter. Same. It does feel starved for air or fuel. Bogging- no power on hills.
Any other opinions?

Check the vacuum hoses to your turbo, or the system in general. When mine are disconnected or faulty, my 2.5T drives like a slug.

The 2.5 turbo cars are notorious for this problem, low power usually caused by one of the many pneumatic relays, sensing a condition to compell the computer to be in the limp home mode, no boost, sometimes its the main computer though rare, there is a 12 page test procedure in the manual, I would suggest if you are not familiar to take it to a good mechanic and have him pull the codes. Then you can decide if you want to replace the relays on your own, then again if the guy is good I would just let him do it, the relays are not that expensive and troubleshooting can be madding.
Good luck Ron |
