Remove sender with crescent wrench? (Picture)
Looking through the hole for the emergency kit into the trunk of my 1982 300D, is this the sender that I need to remove with a crescent wrench (after removing the plug)?
Any precautions I need to take other than lots of rags? Is it attached to anything inside the tank? How long is it? Thanks, Pete. |

Thats the fuel sender. It's about a foot long I believe, not attached to anythink else and I would definetely have rags and rags around because its gonna drip all over.

You having problems with your fuel level gauge?
Its a 46mm nut. You can get a SAE equivalent (something like 1&13/16) at sears for cheap, I got one from them for $16.

I had fungus issues with my diesel a few weeks ago, and I wanted to check the sender to see if it was affected, or whether I caught the fungus in time.
Pete. P.S. Wont a crescent wrench work okay? Wanted to take it out tonight. Pete. |

I used a large set of slip joint pliers to remove both the sedan and wagon senders. I put the pliers straight down onto the sender and used a large screwdriver with my left hand to turn the pliers. They are tight, but don't seem to be *that* tight even after 26 years.
