Thumbs up

Look for the casting number on the head on the driver side. Should be between the 2 and 3 intake runners.

It should be the last few numbers.

Sophie, where did you manage to get the Thule ones? I've been looking for some for a while now to carry the same things you do, but no luck finding the originals or any aftermarket that would fit.

Now you've peaked my interest.

Thanks,
Bill

I do not recall, it was on-line somewhere. I originally got them for my 2002 C320 wagon and they also fit the 300TD.

Somebody had a problem in recent years with oil smoke starting upon installation of a NEW head. (I think it was Dave M, AKA gsxr) The problem turned out to be his mechanic using aftermarket seals and/or putting the exhausts on the intakes and vice versa.
Just pull the valve springs and install factory seals. You may also want to make sure your intake plumbing isn't oily. If it's feeding oil through the intake, you've likely got a problem with your turbo seals, turbo drain pipe, or crankcase ventilation, not bad valve stem seals.

Progress Unmeasured

Her mechanic has fixed all her electrical woes and the head was reworked with new factory valves and seals. She had a lot of C buildup on the old valves. Inside the cylinders she looks unworn as the fingerprints on CYL walls are still evident.
One rear axle half shaft was corroded to the wheel bearing and needed hammering to free, damaging the rotor WTF. Her new name is "GREEN PIT"

Back on the Road

She drives like a new car now, and much less smoke. No leaks evident around the turbo seals either. Hopefully this will make a good daily driver for p/u of the kids and some CA roadtrips next spring. Thanks all for the input.
