603 with new mounts..still have vibration?

The tranny mount appears ok, but I'm not really sure? Is there something else I have overlooked?

The vibration happens only when cold, -32F, but there still remains vibration heard from the exhaust system..after warm-up..maybe rubber exhaust system donuts, but they look intact!

Any thoughts?

That has a different kind of vibration, one that's more annoying!

If it's vibrating when in gear and the brakes applied, you might look to the rear subframe mounts

I was afraid of that, you might be on to something!

I got one right rear that has the body side of the mount badly rusted, maybe rotted through?

The exhaust hanger next to the trans was my noise problem. Easy fix, just tighten.

The engine shocks and mounts for those shocks play a major role in dampening engine vibrations. Thing is though, to do the shocks and mounting hardware for them, it costs about $150 at a certain online parts distributor. I think it was $50/side for mounting hardware (these have bushings in them that help) and the shocks are I think about $25/side. Can't remember exactly though.

Thanks
David

I replaced engine & Tranny mounts on the SDL recently but still had some vibration felt through the accelerator pedal at certain highway speeds. My mechanic tightened up a locking nut on the driveshaft joint (not exactly sure where) that wasn't loose but could be tightened about half a turn. That eliminated about 40% of the vibration. Replacing both the Rubber Donut flex couplings and the Centre Bearing improved it another 40-50%. The one flex coupling was so hard it was like concrete - no flex at all Gear changes and overall smoothness are much improved.

I figure the remaining vibration may be down to engine mount shocks that were not replaced with the mounts themselves, or some small binding of the driveshaft universal joint due to operating in a slightly different position after the tranny mount renewal. Could also be related to rear subframe mounts, which are still on my 'to do' list - I'm working my way rearwards

Brian,

What did you mean by this? What is a "W"?

The 87 300 D does not employ engine shocks such as other chassis do.

I don't think it is a rear sub-frame bushing, but I wonder now about my flex discs. If the rubber gets harder with time, it might make it's self noticeable at lowering temps sooner than newer more pliable rubber?
