Is that really a diesel?? It sounds like it does 6000 rpm. And sounds brilliant too!

If you want speed, BUY A FREAKIN" gasoline powered car. Man these people are stupid. Diesels were and are not intended for this kind of stupidity

Not quite as impressive as a semi-tractor pull with all of those custom turbo rigs but cool.

I'm not entirely sure, due to the absence of emoticons in that clause, but I believe it might've been a jab of satire.

That 'stupidity' you've so expertly commented on is an example of Finnish ingenuity. These outlaws have conjured a way to extract insane amounts of horsepower from these engines. Over the last couple of years, Mauri H. and other Finns have contributed to the forum and graciously sent links to pictures of their high horsepower activities with both new and older generation MBZ diesels...search on Finn, Finnish diesel, mynadiesel etc for more.

Now, we'll wait a moment while you take your foot out of your mouth.

While I'll probably never attach a Holset megaturbo to any of my 617s or even rev it up and dump the clutch, I for one applaud their efforts because, in one way or another, we all reap benefits from their racing R&D.

garage science

there will always be a beautiful stock example of almost any car. So why not experiment with another. If it was'nt for crazy and seemingly pointless experiments we would be without so many of our modern comforts. there is room for everyone. Besides, you can't build a car without a few nuts.

That's what makes it so cool: diesels aren't supposed to be fast. Plus, those units can do that on waste fry oil. Then who gives a damn about mileage?

Personally, I'd love to be able to build up a +400BHP OM603, stab it in an nice SEC body, run it on french fry grease and go trolling for 5.0 Mustangs. Yum, corn oil goodness with no cholesterol either.

You suck!! i love seeing a diesel getting massive HP and alot of hp on a diesel equals to a CRAP LOAD of torque something a GAS car cant do is get a massive amount of torque even with high hp.

just look at the toureg diesel it gets like 300hp or so but has 525lbs of torque

A gas car would have to have 500hp to get around 400lbs of torque. And a diesel with that much power would completely run over any gasser. Have you seen the new V12 tdi they are racing in le mans??? that thing has massive hp with a stupid amount of torque!!

LOL.

I had a plan similar to throw a 617 into a SEC....

Take your blinders off and see what type of economy 7000lbs trucks get that still run low 13s and faster with a turbo diesel motor. Very high teens to low 20s is not uncommon. You may change your bias tune if you'd care to expand your knowledge.

I stand corrected. I did not think that anyone could actually write in that manner, while being completely ignorant of its application and consequential affairs.

Think a 400 hp gas car, of any displacement, will get better mileage than the diesel? These Finnish paragons get the same fuel economy as stock diesels, provided the drivers keep their foot off the pedal. And when mashing the accelerator to the firewall, who gives a toot so long as there's scoot?
