Naughty w124 got me in trouble today

Just did an oil change and decided to take the motor out for a spin. ITU time I think. As I'm in Houston (flatsville capital of the world), onto the SH249 and rapidly up to about 80 in the fast lane. Suddenly, out of the blue I clock a pig, flashing blue and red, about 5m on my tail -scared the living daylights out of me. Surely he is in a hurry and wants to pass, I think, so I move into the next slower lane. He pulls over too, still 5m on my tail. "Oh dear", I think. I pull into the next slow lane -he follows me. I proceeded to cross the last lane and slowed to a stop on the hard shoulder .

I did not have my drivers licence on hand so he asks me to step out of the car, "hands on the trunk and spread em". He berates me for pulling across 3 lanes and says he is going to take me in and fingerprint me and proceeds to frisk me. Then over to the pigmobile he locks me in.

To cut a short story even shorter, he checks me out on his computer. Everything checkes out fine so he decides to give me a ticket instead.

I guess catching real criminals is just too much hard work and these guys need some soft targets to get their statistics up in order to justify their existance. While I was entertained at his pleasure, I saw two of his buddies pull over another couple of motorists and then after he finished with me, not 20 seconds (literally) on the road and he had another sucker pulling over to the hard shoulder. -makes me sick.

Sorry, had to vent.

Well, you WERE excessively speeding (on an urban freeway) w/o a driver's license. The speed limit on 249 is 60 or 65 isn't it? Don't get mad he pulled you over, you wouldn't have gotten in trouble in the first place if you kept it down to 70 at the most.

To recap:

You were doing something illegal-speeding. A law enforcement officer noticed you doing something illegal and pulled you over. Then he found that you were doing something else illegal-driving without having your license on you. For his own safety, he checked you for weapons and put you in the back of the cruiser while he checked to see if you had any warrants or if the car was stolen. He apparently found no warrants and a non-stolen car, so he wrote you a ticket for one or more of the illegal things he caught you doing. Everything sounds ok to me.

BTW, a lot of people with warrants for serious stuff get caught during routine traffic stops.

It's being treated like a criminal first and then the manner in which the policing operation was being implemented that really pissed me off.

Well, you can either learn from your experience, or you can keep getting tickets until you can't afford insurabce. The choice is yours.

Well think of it this way. Your lucky your in the US because after what ive went through in guatemala last week and whats happen to many people out in that country i feel likes pigs isnt such a great name for the cops here in the US.

Over there the cops have shotguns and tech9's, here we have cops with dinky pistols and a stick. Over there if you dont have your license they ask for money, here they give you a ticket. Over there no money well how about a nice bullet through your head!

Dont feel to bad they have it much worse on the other side of the border

Yep, I guess I'll have to learn from the experience.
Violations.
1 speeding
2. Failure to produce DL
3. Failure to produce insurance.

I had absent mindedly left my wallet at home. Where I come from we are not required to carry documents all the time.

greasybenz, thanks for the reality check. In the United Kingdom they do not even carry firearms. I guess with such easy access to firearms over here, he was doing what he felt necessary.

Whats the Law Enforcement Officer supposed to do if he pulls you over for speeding, you have NO identification.....AND youre speeding.....what is the police officer is supposed to think?? Are you on the way to commit a crime? Speeding , are you fleeing from somewhere/thing?

If you're going to drive without a License, at least dont drive 80 MPH on 249. You should know better. 249 is CHOCK FULL of "Pigs" as you like to refer to them as. Just remember, they're "Pigs" now, but you may need their help one day.

Just a tip since you're in Houston, carry a copy of your Insurance in your wallet AND Car, that way you have SOMETHING to identify yourself if you get pulled over without your wallet.

I dont know 'where you are from' but I think every state in the US requires you to carry your Drivers License if youre going to operate a Motor vehicle.
UK Law as follows
http://www.direct.gov.uk/Motoring/DriverLicensing/EndorsementsAndDisqualifications/EndorsementsDisqualificationsArticles/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=10022425&chk=Srs142

MS90 - Failure to give information as to identity of driver etc
That would be driving without your license on your person wouldnt it?

Wow, your car is an exact clone of mine (except for the tan interior). Stop attracting the attention of the cops or they are going to start pulling me over too!

Well, let's us into the know. How much is the ticket? You will think differently if the cop stopped someone who has taken your car for a joyride. There is lots of talk of cops needing to meet certain quota to bolster their budget, but there is little to support that.

personally

i never liked it much even back in the sixties, when i was a half assed hippy, when folks called cops pigs.

we need them. most of them here are good. a few are sort of nazis but not too many.

97% of the time i have been stopped they are gentlemen or ladies. once or twice i didnt deserve whatever they were dishing out. really i can only think of once i actually was totally innocent, and on that occasion i talked to the commanding officer and it was dropped.

no usually when i have been stopped i deserved it. and i ,of course, speed every time i drive.

Well, I wish we had some law enforcement around here like you have there. I'd welcome the opportunity to watch these $hitboxes get pulled over for doing 80 in a 55. That's 25 over the limit and that means it's reckless endangerment. No ticket. You get arrested and put in jail.

They drive 65 in a 40 (service road adjacent to main highway with vehicles entering and exiting at 5 mph).

I sure wish we had the enforcement.

The damage for speeding according to ticket, 14 miles above the 65 posted limit is $188.

The fines for not having DL and insurance on me, are yet to be determined.
