Cheap Thrills in a Blue bottle and zero to 60mph in 17 seconds

Well, after I went by the Stealership to get my new battery today I dropped into West Marine on the same street. I got a bottle of the Startron Diesel additive and went to the nearest fuel station and put the entire bottle into my tank with a full tank of fresh diesel.

http://www.starbrite.com/productdetail.cfm?ID=1538&ProductCat=Automotive&ProductSCat=Gas%20%26%20Diesel%20Additives%20%28Auto%29&ProductSSCat=

BAM!!!!!! As Emril Lagasse says . . .
I was cookin' with GAS! I cannot believe that stuff. I used my stopwatch to time a zero to 60MPH and the first one took over twenty seconds with my foot glued to the floor. Then I drove 50 miles home at 85MPH to blow out the pipes. A Volkswagon bug kept trying to pass me - one of the new ones, but I kept leaving him in the dust in the 300SD or my smoke as the case may be.

Right before I got home I timed her again from zero to 60 from a full stop. And no joke, I did it 3 seconds faster with my foot to the floor. Both were on level terrain. That stuff works.

I don't know what is in that blue bottle, but I felt like I was driving a gasser. I have used Redline, Lucas, Chevron, Lubro Moly, and the diesel fuel treatment from Walmart I usually buy in the gallon jug. But this one KICKS TOTAL BUTT!!! I have never felt my car accelerate like this before. No jokes.

Forgive me for being dull-witted, but are you kidding?

A 300SD with clean boost lines, and properly adjusted valves carrying curb weight should get to 60 mph in 15 somewhat seconds.

If 60 mph took over 20 seconds before, there is something more to it.

I have felt the effects of Diesel Kleene in my car, and it makes a night/day difference. Not just off the line, but at every engine speed. However I've never noticed an economy increase. Probably because I was having too much fun.

8 oz of that blue bottle is concentrated enough for 256 gallons. Dumped the whole bottle in, huh? Hmmm...I don't know if that was necessary.

Well

Well, maybe I did not need the whole bottle, but I may have a clogged tank screen. One of the good people here suggested using this stuff and said I may not have to remove the tank screen. It said on the bottle you could not overdose so I figured it would not hurt to mix it a little more concentrated.

I am beginning to think I have an air leak around the old style primer pump too. So this might explain a few of my fuel system troubles lately. I plan to replace it.

After this tank of fuel I will remove the screen and clean or replace it and will likely replace the brass fitting and flexible fuel line too. Just picked up some new fuel filters today. Even after all that hard running, the pre filter still looks clean so maybe the tank is not dirty. Looks like it may just be that air leak.

I am figuring that it just boosted the Cetane pretty high. It did give it more kick than any other product I have ever used though.

My 300SD runs 0-60 in 13.7 secs on my stopwatch, with only 140 lb me aboard and 1/4 tank of "B50" (1/2 petro mix with B100) and that is on 9 psi max boost.

You do have other issues unless you weigh 400 lbs!!!

I have clocked my SD under 13 seconds (12.4) 0-60 on a flat road, with just me and a few gallons of fuel + all the junk in my trunk, probably 100 lbs worth.... My car is speedy fast

weight

Well, I do weigh a good 350lbs. But I guess that's why my wheels stay on the ground in high speed cornering so well.

I am also going to put in a set of new injectors from Tom J. I am curious to try some of these nozzles from Kerma's post. Sounds like he may have found something good.

When Tom J gets back from India, I am excited to get the injectors and see what they will do for my performance. I am sure mine are the original at 273,000 miles.

I am just trying to rule out each performance issue I can to get everything back as good as it can get.

Got to do that valve lash adjustment soon too.

Forget injectors, I hope he brings back some 5-speed manual trannys!

just opened the hood

It was dark when I got home last night so I could not see much, but this morning I opened the hood to check the pre-filter and I really think the starbrite has cleared my fuel tank screen.

When my fuel was low in the tank - almost empty before the fuel light came on, my pre filter fuel level was half full. Either I had an air leak in the system or the tank strainer was clogged near the bottom. That's why I tried this starbrite.

I called starbrite in Florida to ask if the same liquid called "Tank Cleaner" was the same as the fuel treatment and they were closed yesterday. It looked like the tank cleaner directions just said to mix at a higher concentration than the smaller bottles. So that is what I did with the fuel treatment instead of buying a gallon of tank cleaner.

Upon inspecting my clear pre-filter just now, it is full of fuel like it should be with a small air bubble. I do think and will continue to evaluate, but it looks like the Starbrite has unstopped the tank screen and dissolved whatever was clogging it.

Thanks.

Primer pump

As to the primer pump I would get that done pretty soon. After fooling around with a 300TD I just picked up with Brandon yesterday and having a hard time getting it started after putting a new turbo on it, it turned out to be a bad old fuel primer pump. Was letting air in and when trying to pump it leaked more than was probably going in. Car hadn't started in about 4 years but once we got that taken care of it started right up.
