You are talking about the climate control fan/blower and motor?

This is accessed under the hood by first removing the windshield wiper motor assembly.

There is considerably more detail to doing this in terms of the steps required, but at least you know where the access comes from. You may find more information through a forum search.

yes, thanks, sounds like a bit more work than my 126, The blower is squeeling. Can the brushes be replaced ( assuming this is the issue) or is this a remove and replace item?

I did a blower motor replacement on a 1987 300D, very similar to the car you are talking about as far as the placement of the major items.

The motor is likely squealing because the bearings are worn, not to mention those brushes. So, a motor replacement is most likely in order. It's not too expensive to replace just the motor, quite a bit more to replace the motor/squirrel fan assembly. But to replace just the motor you have to carefully press/pull off the plastic squirrel fans, marking their alignment to each other so they will stay balanced. Then press them onto the new motor.

I found the result to be very satisfying - smooth fan operation with no more squealing.

Once you get the wiper assembly removed, there is an air box below it. When you get the air box opened up the motor/fan assembly is right there. Actually not a bad job at all except for determining how to exchange the squirrel fans onto the new motor.

Read http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=147956&page=2post #20 and 23 in the thread in link.

I just replaced blower motor as well as other items in a 90 300D 2.5 turbo with 106K miles on it.

It will probably be harder to replace blower motor with evap box mounted in car than on a workbench, so you might want to get the same make of motor with the squirrel cages installed. That way you will not have to deal with a unit that mount differently. I removed a functioning Bosch blower motor with squirrel cages because I had the evap box out and the person I did the job for wanted a new blower motor. The bushes appear to be worn about 60% to 70%. I’m going to put it on ebay next week.

Mine was frooze, just lubed it with Hopps #9, still working. I've been in and out 3X now. Also had to replace the regulator. Looks difficult, but it's an easy fix. Cheap too if you just lube it.
