How many hours to pull the tranny?

I have to put a new front seal on my 300SDL tranny and I was considering having it rebuilt while it's out. However, if removing the tranny doesn't take too long (haven't decided how long too long is) then I might just do the seal and wait for the tranny to go out before rebuilding. Also, while I have the tranny out, any suggestions for what other items should be replaced? I seem to remember reading about a flex disc and having the flywheel resurfaced.

No reason to have the flywheel resurfaced on an automatic.

I'd consider pulling the front pump out and replacing the bushing. It's really easy and the bushing wear is usually what makes the seal leak in the first place.

Where is the front pump? Inside the tranny?

yes. The seal is pressed into the front pump, staring right at you as soon as you lift the torque converter from the trans. It's bolted
to the case, it cannot be missed.

With a lift? Maybe 2 hours out 2 hours in if you take your time.

The trans on these cars come out pretty quick.

Thanks for all the help. I don't have a hoist, but the bolts are nice and clean, no rust. A few hours is no problem, as long as it doesn't take me a few days. And yes, I'm sure the second time will be much quicker.

Figure on a day if you don't run into any problems. With my dad we did mine in a long morning. But we got lucky and didn't hit any snags.

It comes off with the tranny, thats the way we did it. Unbolt it from the fly wheel.
