AC on my 85 300D

I need a new compressor. Autozone says it's an R4. Are all R4's the same? I see a guy on ebay selling them. Also where do I start to get the center two vents working? Thanks

Thumbs up

Yeah, it's the Harrison R4 unit. When you stick with R12 you need mineral oil and FLUSH that system hardcore if the compressor took a crap.

Don't forget you need all the o-rings, refrigerant, an expansion valve, dryer, switches, etc when going through the system.

For the dash vents, you need a vac tool (Mityvac) to test the lil pods back there.

If you can't get airflow through the center vents, more than likely the center pod has torn and is leaking. For that one, diaphragms are available at www.autoluxmbz.com For a little how-to info, see post #9 here:http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=12207&highlight=center+pod

Hope that helps!

I've got an AC compressor, rec/dryer and pressure switch coming tomorrow I hope. I went to the top of this website, clicked on "Buy Parts", got the 888 number and called Phil. A NEW compressor shipped to the front door is $209 bucks. For the extra $80 bucks or so it was a no-brainer to get the new one over a reman unit. Remanufactured compressors fail quite often. You will also need a rec/dryer if you open the system.

Also, one year warranty on the compressor, and it's from a known-reliable entity.
