The things that worked the best for me were alda tweaks and getting the linkage adjusted back to where it was supposed to be. My '84 used to belong to my brother and right before I bought it from him, I adjusted the linkage so it was contacting the stop, as in the pic in ForcedInduction's post, and I also cranked up the alda. If your alda has never been adjusted, it might have a black cap on it. If it does, poke it with a screwdriver(congratulations you just deflowered your first alda

) and remove said cap. Underneath you'll find a slotted screw with a 10mm locknut around it. You might have to destroy that metal collar to get to the 10mm nut but that's ok. It usually only allows two full turns or so either direction. Counter-clockwise(unscrewing) = more umph right off the line, clockwise(screwing in) = less get-up-and-go. Adjust it to where you get a steady pull right from the moment you hit the pedal. You should be able to get it to where you don't feel the turbo kick in so hard at around 2.5k rpm, it should be more of a steady power curve.
