True, but when running right it offers so much more. The 617 is a work horse, nothing wrong with that I beat on mine half the year. But not everyone wants a work horse.

No leg room in a W123?
I'm over 6'5", and have a 39" inseam. There is PLENTY of legroom in all of my W123 cars. Doesn't leave much for the unlucky individual who might be sitting behind me, though.
Jay.

........nowhere for your left elbow.........armrest too far forward. ........nowhere for your right elbow.........same problem. ........arms straight out for about two feet to reach steering wheel. ........door way too close for comfort. The comfort factor is a problem at this height. |

How tall are you, Brian? I've owned a W126 300SD in the past, and, quite frankly, don't think there is that much difference in the driving position.

Well I couldn't get comfortable in the W123. I just felt it was to small. I can get comfortable in some tight cars to, I have no problem driving Jags for example, and those are much tighter up front then MB's.
Not to mention that no one can sit behind you because the seat is so far back. Might as well buy a coupe, becuase the back seat becomes useless.

Talk about a tight fit.........certainly wouldn't want to sit in there for hours....... ........but........it will blast you up to 120 mph with no effort and simply says..........."Let's go". Sort of made the drive home in the SD very anti-climatic....... |

Yeah I know, try an S2000 next time. No leg room at all, but run that sucker to red line! Not all Honda's are boring!
Well you went from darn close to 400hp, down to 120, just a slight loss.

What was it? SLK55?
My SD runs that warm, as well. Never usualy goes over 100C, but will get darn close.

Same here........it will just touch 100°C. in traffic after a highway run with the a/c on. I'm not worried about it, but, it does make you take notice. I think you're right about the radiator. A brand new radiator needs less coolant to maintain a given temperature. Therefore the thermostat won't fully close the bypass because the engine won't ever get up to 94°C under most conditions. As the radiator gets older and the efficiency drops, the thermostat will reach 94°C. more frequently and fully close the bypass. My personal opinion is that the bypass is not fully closed until the engine reaches about 99°C. because the thermostat is subject to the large cooling flow from the coolant return line from the radiator. The only place that it sees the engine temperature is the disc on the nose. And, this disc is outside the flow path when the bypass is fully closed. It's not a very good design. I'd like to test the thermostat by suspending it in a pot of water.........but........just putting the very tip of the nose in the water.........leaving the entire thermostat body and main spring above the water in the cooler air..........and see what it does. |

Makes sense, I bet with a new radiator it would run at 80C constantly.
Actualy the SLK isn't super charged, so it is one of the "slower" AMG's offered. Most of the new ones are north of 500hp, like the E63 for example. I'd bet an E63 is capable of a high to mid 10 second 1/4 mile, now where does one enjoy such a monster on I95?
