Unhappy No AC at ALL!!!!

its come to be about the middle of summer and my 300SD has no ac. none what so ever. the compressor is gone, the condernser has multiple smashed fins and the hose from the condensor to the plug on the fire wall is gone.

does anyone know if i can replace what is needed to get my ac working and how long and how much money would it take? also does anybody have any of the parts needed that they would be willing to sell?

I suppose everything could be purchased new, but it seems reasonable that
you could get them from salvage.

Have you studied all the other connectins and parts ?
Look inside at the evap and expansion valve, are they there ?
Two lines go from the expansion valve through the engine wall into the engine bay.
The large line makes its way over the engine to the compressor .
The smaller one goes to the dryer, other side of dryer to the condensor,
the condensor then goes to the other side of the compressor.

I think I got it right, somebody correct me if not.

You will absolutely need a new dryer and you will have to flush all the parts very well.

Dryer, $30 to $60.
Compressor $150 to $250.
Compressor belt $20.
That missing line..... not sure.

After all the parts are gathered it could possibly be done in one or two days.
Should not take more.

Sounds like you will need those compressor bolts though, and spacers.
Better start checking the local wrecking yards.

Lightbulb a bit of work

Lots of work to do. Don't waste your money on new parts. Look for a MB boneyard for parts. It'll be more reasonable. Have you had an Indy check out everything for you? Sometimes its good to get an assesment from and Indy. It'll give you an idean on just where you need to go. Of course your other alternative is to just lower all the windows and just throw back and let the wind blow inside.

i have not taken it to any shop since i have had the car (march 3rd) since i plan on doing as much as i can myself although i think i should have someone check it out because yestarday i was greaseing up my window regulators and found a chunk of wood and a pen inside of the door.
im not entirely sure with all the "lingo" here so correct me if im wrong but does indy mean independent mechanic? do they charge anything to check stuff out?

i think the only things missing are the compressor and the high and low pressure lines. the condensor looks like part of the cooling fan was smashed into it but there are not that many damaged fins. should i be ok?

has anyone else replaced the AC system like this? i would love some help(pictures). ive been reading up on previous posts but still could use some help. i also plan on using DieselGiants website for the dryer and expansion valve and the pictorial.

i was looking through the yellow pages today for the auto yards and none of the ones i talked to had anything for mercedes. the one guy even laughed and hung up. at this point im thinking ebay for a compressor unless anyone has one laying around they'd like to sell

What part of the country do you live in YoungBenz? The 2-60 air conditioning might be your best bet for a while. If your totally missing the compressor, it sounds like you got a battle to go through. If it's been gone for a while, your going to have alot of items to replace there.

Compressor filter drier expansion valve accumulator o-rings hopefully not the evaporator and condensor too. Problem is sometimes little six and eight legged critters get in the open hoses to wreak hacok later on. Not to mention corrosion internally.

I really hope that is not the case, but prepare for the worst and be happy if it's not. There should be a test to run pressure through the system to check for blockage before you invest in a compressor.

the AC is not really a necessity here in north east ohio but if i ever do have to sell the car which by the way i dont plan on doing i would like to have it done.

what kind of test can you get done? can i do it myself?

anybody in the cleveland area willing to lend a hand or know of any good AC shops?
