Where do you put your coffee in your Benz??? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Okay... I know this is a very serious forum, and I have found tons of extremely valuable information here that has helped me get my new MB Diesel (350SD) running smooth and lots more information about how to KEEP it running as long as possible!! And, naturally, my sincere thanks to you guys who are helping me out!!

Now... on to a much less serious question... Where the heck do you put your coffee in your Benz??? The last 2 cars I have owned (1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager and Dodge Intrepid) as well as our 2001 VW Beetle have very handy drink holders. In my 1991 350SD, I've found the two drink holders on the rear of the glove box door - which will work great for parking-lot-picnics or drive-in movies - but what about my daily Starbucks Venti Double Decaf Frap Mocha Latte-chino in traffic on the way to work??? Where can I put it??? (Written tongue-in-cheek, of course - I'm a saxophone player, so I don't have a real job!! See - www.RustyBlevins.com - I told you so!!)

Okay, enough fooling - but seriously, is there a good, nice looking after-market drink holder out there that might work in a 126?

yea i second that... reason their are no cup holders in what.. pre 1997 mercedes benz's.. whose going to worry about their mega long name latte while going 140mph...not me..

Thats why american cars have so many cupholders, they are boring to drive and our speedlimit is way too low, so they have to makup for it with lots of buttons/gadgets and holders for food.

MB's reflect the highspeed pleasure that our European friends enjoy.....its not fair.

I rarely bring any drink into my car, if I do, its a free 20oz from speedway, and I just hold it and drink it down, no need for a cupholder.

I will admit I considered one of those holders in the auction above though, I just never got around to it/don't see the real need.

It's like this: I walk into Starbucks, I order a tall black coffee and ask them not to fill it all the way to the rim (no spill). I put it in the subtle black heater-vent cupholder I bought for $5 at Pep Boys (it latches to the heater vent in the center above the switches). I then drive the rest of the way to work, ignoring the coffee and paying attention to the road. When I get to work, I pick up the coffee and carry it into the office. Then I drink it. What's wrong with transporting a cup of coffee from one place to the other? As long as you're not trying to drink it, it shouldn't be any more of a problem than having a jacket in the back seat, or a bucket of tools in the trunk. Simply an item being transported.

Anyhow, the Pep Boys cupholder works well ... occasionally gets rickety and needs adjustment, but it blends in with black dashboard and isn't too boorish.

Much better than what my dad used to do, just rest the cup in the console ... when he first gave me the car, I spent MONTHS getting the dark black, 15-year-old coffee out of every crevace.

I made my own cup holder out of scrap wood with 2 holes cut out, that fitted in the center console under the arm rest. I think it took me less than an hour to get one built. Someone on ebay was selling nicer versions made out of oak a while back, i think he wanted close to $100 each for them

It actually works out well, because it's too hot to drink right away anyhow. I'll admit that occasionally when I'm stuck in stand-still traffic right before I get to the office, I'll start sipping while I'm sitting there idling in the highway-turned-parking lot. Sounds good for you since you work in an office, but i walk around all day in a european car parts wharehouse. Pulling parts off shevles, so we arent allowed to drink or eat while working

we have to wait till break time at 11:30!!

So im out of luck there, but then again i dont even drink coffee

I drink a Monster Assault energy drink while getting dressed(have a case of that stuff in my fridge). that thing gets me zipping around the isles pulling parts as fast as i can

That pep boys cup holder you speak of is the one i had mentioned, but i would be afriad of that thing snapping the vents with a large drink.

Yeah, I'm a copy editor and work night desk, so the coffee is a good start to the evening. I go in around 6 p.m. feeling ready to fall asleep, but by midnight I'm in second-wind territory. The way copy works, you kind of have to eat as you go ... never get a specific break time, just kind of have to cram in bites between when the articles move across. Definately nice, though, to be able to stuff my face straight through the night.

Re: the strength of those holders ... I'm a wimp, I always get the "tall" (SMALL) coffee. So no real load for the rickety holder.

Who travels at 140mph in the US? Especially in a diesel

I've got a 560 and I rarely go over 100.

Of course, I neither drink NOR answer my cell phone when driving. I will, however, have a sip when stopped at a stop light! Otherwise, it's both hands on the wheel and 100% of my brain focused on driving! I enjoy driving my Mercedes too much (and appreciate the fact that it saves me tons of $ in fuel since I run 100% WVO via a GreaseCar System) to let some jack-a$$ wreck me! In a nutshell, I drive as safely as I possibly can!

Any leads on a nice looking drink holder, though?
