How long does it take to cut off?
On an average 1980 300D how long does it take to cut off when the key is turned off? Is it as fast as an gas car?

it should be, if not, you've got a vacuum leak!

long shut down
I have had the same probs with my mb lately and know it's a vac leak but haven't been able to figure out exactly where. Looking through the records of the previous owner they had the same problem twice and both times it was a vac leak in one of the door locks. If you lock your doors before you shut down and it cuts off faster or at all then supposedly it's leaking from one of the door locks???? my 300 td won't shut down at all unless i lock the door a few minutes before shutting down.

Thanx for the info on the door lock syst. I will reply once i track it down. I assume which ever door lock is not ingaging or dissingaging would be the one with the suspected leak??

Our '83 does just about instantly(it failed before though), but my car has always taken 1-2 seconds, for over three years. Hasn't failed yet.

Sometimes it's not the easy, if it's a slow leak the door may still lock. If you do have one that's not working, start by looking at that one.
