Manually Shifting an Auto tranny
I've read on several sites and within this forum about manually shifting the manual transmission, but have usually read about it for older MBs. Can you do this on my 87 300D turbo? Will this help going up long hills on highways? And will this hurt the tranny?

if your tranny is working correctly it will shift on its own on a long hill. but no it wont hurt the tranny to pull it down on a hill. that is what your shift lever is for. if it would hurt the car they wouldnt have given you that option.
